The work of Scotish painter Philip Gurrey (born in 1984!!) reminds me a lot of Jenny Saville's. His beautifully deranged portraits are both fascinating and revolting. Faces cut apart and messily stitched back together. Eyes swollen over and oozing.
My drawing teacher in college told me that if i wanted a portrait to be interesting i needed to exaggerate an aspect of the person in an unrealistic or off-putting way. He must have been under similar tutelage.
